Thanksgiving and generosity overflows! Our church members and friends donated $9,111 during October 2022 to provide food boxes for hungry families in Ukraine. BEPC church member Pat Anderson will deliver the check to Project Ruth in Bucharest, Romania. They will pack “4:7 Care Boxes” of food to feed a family of four for seven days – providing 50,000 calories and 1,800 grams of protein. The boxes will be transported to the Ukrainian border for distribution. Since each food box costs $44, we funded 207 boxes – food enough for 17,388 meals! Please keep Pat and his family in your prayers as they travel throughout Romania during Thanksgiving week.
This past July, long-time Romanian friends of BEPC members Pat and Carolyn Anderson spoke after a Sunday worship service about Project Ruth. Oti and Cami Bunaciu founded this program in the 1990s in Bucharest, Romania, as a school that provides nourishment and education to poor and marginalized children, particularly Roma (Gypsies). They never thought that in 2022 their largest neighbor, Ukraine, would be invaded with terrified, hopeless refugees coming their way.
In addition to providing shelter for arriving refugees, the school quickly discovered the food plight of many refugees unable to get across the border due to sickness and other issues. In response, they began assembling “4:7 Boxes” of food to feed a family of four for seven days – providing 50,000 calories and 1,800 grams of protein. These are transported to the border where Ukrainian church members distribute the boxes – currently to the Odessa area.
