National Day of Prayer Ring Out the Bells May 7th at 12 Noon!
Banner Elk Presbyterian Church had a few (nine to be exact, if you count the photograph, Jim Swinkola!) folks turn out to rings the bells. The NC Council of Churches “in solidarity with our neighbors around the world who are calling aloud from their balconies and rooftops across their neighborhoods and cities each evening, the N.C. Council of Churches invites churches to ring out their prayers at noon on Thursday, May 7, National Day of Prayer, 2020. We imagine churches rural and urban, large and small, joining in 5 minutes of “Joyful Noise” as a witness to our belief that these bells will once again call us to worship together in the same space. And, in the meantime, we wait hopefully for God’s grace-filled future.” They suggested churches ring their bells and carillons and members bet out and ring bells.
A.C. Marriott and Katarina rang the Big Bell while Tony and Claire Fortune, Alisa Ballard, Margaret Trivette, Dedy Traver, and Donna Dicks rang an assortment of bells!! Donna is not seen in the photo as she is out on the sidewalk by the front entrance! After the “photo op” with Jim Swinkola, A.C. and Kat continued to ring the big bell for five minutes while the rest of us joined Donna on the front walkway! We seemed to be the only Bell Brigade in Town, but The Ding-A-Lings rang with great gusto!
