Work is well underway to identify the next pastor for Banner Elk Presbyterian Church. Below are the monthly updates describing the work of the Pastoral Nominating Committee.

Dear Heavenly Father, we ask you to open the hearts and minds of the Pastor Nominating Committee members, preparing them to listen and discern your holy will for a new pastor for Banner Elk Presbyterian Church. Give them energy and inspiration as you lead them to the pastor you have already chosen. Be with each church member as they pray for the work of the PNC. In your holy name we pray, Amen.

December, 2020 – The Pastoral Nominating Committee (PNC) has wonderful news as the Presbytery of Western NC accepted their Mission Information Form (MIF) and they have started to receive Personal Information Forms (PIF). This is where the real work comes in as the PNC will go over each PIF with open minds and hearts. The PNC is expected to receive potentially hundreds of PIFs while searching for the best candidate for Banner Elk Presbyterian Church. The PNC meets weekly under the excellent guidance of Presbytery Associate, Barbara Ross. It is of the utmost importance the PNC remain vigilant and everything be kept confidential. So, while we certainly request your prayers, please refrain from asking any committee members about potential candidates. Please continue to pray for McNair, Nancy, Susan, Don, Emily, Lyndsay and Michelle as they go forward doing the Lord’s work.

October 2020 – The Pastoral Nominating Committee (PNC) continues to be hard at work. We have completed the first big step by sending in our Mission Information Form (MIF) to Presbytery of Western North Carolina for approval from the Committee on Ministry. The MIF is a very important piece of the work of the PNC, as it provides information detailing what our church is all about. The committee worked for several weeks on the MIF, wanting to make sure we were able to convey the true spirit of Banner Elk Presbyterian Church in a limited word form.  This form is what potential pastors look at and how they will first learn about us. Please continue to pray for McNair, Nancy, Susan, Don, Emily, Lyndsay and Michelle as they go forward doing the Lord’s work.

September 2020 – The Pastor Nominating Committee has been selected and is hard at work. The members on the PNC are: McNair Tornow, Chairman, Nancy Owen, Susan Carter, Don Hilsmier, Emily Garrett, Lyndsay Ennis, and Michelle Pope. This is not only a calling to bring a positive goal to the church but also a spiritual growth for us all as a congregation. To achieve this goal, we must first pray without ceasing. Each week there will be a specific prayer in the bulletin for you to pray. We ask that you, the congregation, will keep the PNC in your prayers and pray that we will listen and discern God’s holy will for a new pastor.
